CAMFED, Tanzania

Over the past 15 years, CAMFED has been dedicated to tackling rural poverty and disease in sub-Saharan Africa by investing in the education of vulnerable children who because of poverty are unable to complete their education; we are committed to ensuring that the potential of the next generation is not lost. In 2007, more than 408, 000 children across some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania benefited from CAMFED’s education programmes and 13, 667 community members received vital business skill straining.

In partnership with the Roger Federer Foundation, the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) will bring critical and life-changing support to an estimated 9'087 vulnerable girls and boys to stay in primary and secondary school in the Tanzanian district of Kibaha. The following measures are planned for upcoming years:

  • Support a cohort of 260 girls to complete four years of secondary school and complete their secondary education from 2008-2011
  • trough provision of school fees, uniformes, shoes, school and sanitary supplies
  • Train 40 female teacher mentors to provide psycho-social support to vulnerable children at primary and secondary school
  • Hold inclusive community forums and train communities across Kibaha District to improve access to education for children
  • Enable 160 young women to set up rural business
  • Train 90 young women as community health activists
  • Organise workshops where girls attending secondary school can discuss personal problems and find common approaches
